A church that is perfect for imperfect people. We do not want anyone to feel like they have to be "perfect" to come here. We want people to feel free to come here just as they are and to seek God.
A church that identifies with the past without living in it. As a church, we identify with the past (the Apostles, even Abraham) -but that does not mean we must live in it. Nowhere does Scripture tell us that the approach to the faith must never change. In fact, the church was designed to be fluid and adaptable to every tribe and tongue and culture in every era of time -and that includes American culture in 2010.
A church that actually serves others and attempts to change the world and doesn't just talk about it. The church of today must see itself and act as the body of Christ -the hands, feet of Christ - literally His physical presence on the earth. And if that is who we are, it seems like that should determine some of the things we do, like in our community, etc.
A church that connects people to Jesus, not to an institution. The Christian faith is not about rules and regulations, but about a spiritual connection to Jesus Christ -period.
